The Linganore Mountain Bike team began in 2019 with nine riders and three coaches. Entering the season with little experience, the team was embraced and "shown the ropes" by the MICL community.
Since 2019 we have continued to grow and evolve into the robust team we are today. Our team now consists of approximately thirty riders in sixth through twelfth grade and about twenty coaches. Throughout the season we hone bike handling skills, work on endurance and participate in races. Our team is very active in volunteering throughout the community and hosts several family events during the year.
The Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). MICL was organized in 2017 to provide a fun, safe and high-quality mountain biking program for students in grades 6 to 12. Regardless of ability level, the Maryland League is committed to providing a positive experience for all student-athletes. The league’s mission statement is to enable every Maryland teen to develop a strong mind, a strong body and strong character through lifelong participation in cycling.
NICA or National Interscholastic Cycling Association is the nationwide organization that oversees the state leagues such as MICL. Please visit the NICA website to see their mission, vision and values statements and to learn more about the association.
